What is a Creepy Guy?
Well, if you’re asking that question, you probably aren’t a woman. In my experience, just saying the phrase gets a knowing smile and nod from women.
What does The Pride mean when we say “Creepy Guy”?
Well, we mean: whatever you want it to mean.
Creepy Guy behavior means something different to each person. Some of us – like me – have very high Creepy Guy tolerance: words don’t bother me, and as long as he keeps his hands to himself, I’m likely to just roll my eyes. Others have a much lower threshold: asking inappropriate questions or even staring too long from across the room is enough. And here’s the thing. We’re all right. “Creepy” is whatever is creepy TO YOU. And NO ONE gets to criticize you for having your own boundaries.
Unfortunately, having a broad definition and application makes it difficult to talk about it. But we still we will. Because you can’t fix something if you can’t talk about it.
So, here I provide a few different ways of thinking about the Creepy Guy and his Creepy Behaviors. I’d love to hear what you think.
- It’s like business casual dress. We know what casual is. We know what business is. And we know that business casual encompasses EVERYTHING in between.
- Creepy Behaviors are those things that, if you were at all attracted to the Guy doing them, would seem cute or charming – but you’re not, so they don’t.
